World Genome

I think it is important to do those projects that you really want to do even if other’s scratch their heads when you tell them about it. This is one such project for me. I wanted to visualize the earth as if it were coded and sequenced like a genome.

So I made a replica of a gel electrophoresis sheet. The four bases of DNA are T.C.A.G. To match the theme, I classified Earth into four parts: water, bare land. vegetation, and major human manipulation (crops and cities). Fun fact: I even bought a sheet from the actual human genome project to replicate it as closely as possible.
