Until recently, custom styling a multi-scale basemap was a fairly labour intensive endeavor. Correction, it was VERY labour intensive. In some cases, impossible. I helped prototype a tool called the Vector Tile Style Editor that allows you to customize your map to your heart’s content. It is really versatile too. You can click one button and get a whole new map or you can get into the weeds and change an obscure setting you have always wanted to adjust.
Many people were involved in this project and I like to thank Patrick Arlt and his team for making this come to life. I love playing around with this tool. I use it to get inspiration and I use it in my day-to-day work. I used it to redesign the Navigation style, for example
