With this map, I tried something new. I had always wanted to design a map in a language that I did not know. It was a great experience because you have to 100% trust another with the translations.
I also wanted to try and blend a papery texture with a hillshade. The goal was to modernize an ancient map, but also to mimic many of those things that make older maps appealing.

The Battle of Sekigahara
Fought on October 21, 1600, the Eastern army loyal to Tokugawa leyasu, defeated the Western army loyal to Ishida Mitsunari. It was the largest battle in feudal Japan.
This marked the unofficial beginning of the Edo period which lasted until 1868.
